14 Question(s) answered

  • Question: Does it work without Opentherm on the boiler? Answer:
Yes, OpenTherm is only compatible with the Wiser Kit 1 with Combi boiler's at the moment.
  • Question: What do you do with the current wall mounted thermostat? Does this simply bypass or does it need removing and electrics isolated? Answer:
The current wired thermostat is no longer needed so you would link out the Live In and the Live Out wires ( Join together ) usually done in the wiring centre.
  • Question: What is the max distance for hub and thermostat communication? Answer:
The thermostats and iTRVs use your own RF network. The range would be around 30 metres depending on the building characteristics ( Construction ).
  • Question: Can the app be on multiple devices? Answer:
The app can be used on multiple device's to control one Wiser HubR. Allowing both you and others the ability to increase and decrease the heating to your own requirements per zone.
  • Question: Does it require internet connection as a must? Answer:
The TRV's connect to the Wiser hub, it is essentially an internet connected product. It can be set up and installed without the internet but you would not benefit from any internet updates and of course the unit will not operate in ECO mode. We would strongly recommend connecting to the internet wherever possible.
  • Question: How can I control radiators fitted with covers? as the TRV will be inside the cover and not sensing the room temp. would I need to buy an extra room stat for each room with rad covers and will the sensor reading from the TRV be overridden? Answer:
Yes, this is exactly what you can do once the room thermostat is installed it will be the temperature sensor and it will control the radiator thermostats in that room.
  • Question: Are these TRVs noisy? Answer:
There is a slight noise and they do open fully in seconds.
  • Question: Do these TRV's come supplied with batteries? Answer:
Yes the Wiser TRVs come with 2x AA batteries.
  • Question: Do these have the abilities to call for heat via the hub? or are they only able to regulate the flow to maintain the set temp? Answer:
The Wiser Radiator Thermostats call for heat via the Hub which is wired to the boiler. Using these each zone is able to call for heat independently without heating other zones
  • Question: I have 2 radiators in my lounge, would it be best to fit a TRV to both radiators or would one be enough? Answer:
For best performance you should fit a TRV on each radiator. If you do have radiators without TRVs in your Wiser system these will always warm up when the boiler is firing.
  • Question: Can you adjust the room heat manually on the TRV? For when there is no user with a phone. Answer:
In normal use the temperatures will be set through the Wiser heat app. It is also possible to directly induce a time limited up or down boost of the temperature from the radiator thermostat by simply twisting the cap. Twist the cap in the + direction illuminates the red LED for 5 seconds to increase the temperature. Twist the cap in the - direction illuminates the blue LED for 5 seconds to decrease the temperature. When the cap is twisted the set point temperature is increased/decreased by 2 degrees C from the current room temperature. Th boost is active for 1 hour.
  • Question: Please can you explain what the function of the multiple sensors in the Wiser TRV is? Answer:
There are 3 sensors in the radiator thermostat that work in conjunction with a mathematical algorithm in order to evaluate the room temperature rather than the immediate surroundings in proximity to the radiator.
  • Question: Does this sense the temperature in the room or just in the radiator? Answer:
The radiator thermostat senses air temperature of the room
  • Question: Work on towel rails? Answer:
Yes the Wiser iTRV will work in the bathroom but depending on the position of the installation possible water ingress or high humidity/ condensation could affect its operation.
